Ottawa woman honoured with $5,000 La-Z-Boy gift card as CTV & MOVE 100’s Community Hero

An Ottawa woman has been honoured with CTV and MOVE 100’s Community Hero Award, and a $5,000 La-Z-Boy gift card prize for her acts of kindness toward people in need.

The award is sponsored by La-Z-Boy of Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston.

Melanie Guigue goes store to store across the city, asking businesses to donate extra coffee, snacks, or even pizza slices. She also reaches out o Facebook, gathering support from community members.

With what she receives, she puts together handout bags filled with food and water for those who need it most.

Guigue says her actions show how one person’s kindness can inspire others to give back.

“The more I can do, the better it goes out there,” she said.
