The ByWard Market and Centretown areas are the hot spots for parking tickets in the City of Ottawa, with Bylaw Services officers issuing tens of thousands of parking tickets over a 10-month period. CTV News Ottawa asked the City of Ottawa for parking ticket data in business areas following the implementation of paid on-street parking in the Westboro, Wellington West and Hintonburg areas in September 2025. Bylaw Services says 72,755 parking tickets were issued between Sept. 9, 2025, and the end of June 2026 in nine Business Improvement Areas. There were 2,046,434 parking transactions in the nine BIA zones during the 10-month period. “Paid parking and enforcement are important tools for managing demand for limited curbside parking, encouraging turnover and improving the availability of parking during peak periods,” Jake Gravelle, Chief of Bylaw and Regulatory Services, told CTV News Ottawa in an email. “This helps ensure parking spaces are available to more residents and visitors throughout the day, while supporting the needs of local businesses and the broader vitality of commercial areas.” Gravelle said the most common parking infractions include parking in excess of three hours, parking in a no-stopping or no-parking areas, and failure to pay in a pay and display zone. Bylaw Services officers issued 20,014 parking tickets in Centretown between Sept. 9, 2025, and the end of June. The city said there were 587,415 paid parking transactions in the Centretown area during the period. A total of 19,095 parking tickets were issued in the ByWard Market over the 10-month period, according to the city. Bylaw officers handed out 16124 parking tickets in the Wellington West and Westboro Village area following the introduction of paid on-street parking spots on Sept. 9, 2025. The city said there were 447,965 paid parking transactions in the areas over the 10-month period. The city says 7,613 parking tickets were issued in the Glebe between Sept. 9 ,2025 and June 2026, while 3,801 tickets were issued in the Downtown area. “Bylaw and Regulatory Services (BLRS) continues to focus enforcement on supporting public safety, accessibility, traffic flow, parking availability and compliance with the City’s Traffic and Parking Bylaw,” Gravelle said. “By encouraging compliance and appropriate parking turnover, enforcement helps maintain access to parking in high-demand areas and supports local businesses. Motorists are reminded to review and comply with all posted parking restrictions, including both signed and unsigned regulations.” Last fall, the city also extended paid on-street parking to evenings and Saturdays in the ByWard Market, Little Italy and the Glebe.
