If you grew up in the ‘90s and watched music videos, you likely caught a glimpse of Rick Campanelli or also known as ‘Rick the Temp.’ After a storied career in Canadian television broadcasting, Campanelli is now turning to books and has written his first one titled Tempted. Campanelli will be making his way to our region for an author talk hosted by the Barrie Public Library. It’s taking place on Thurs., Nov. 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Southshore Community Centre in Barrie. While it’s free to attend, guests are required to reserve a spot on the library’s website. His book is a candid memoir of his time in the spotlight, as well as his gambling addiction, a tumultuous journey for Campanelli, bringing with it temporary highs and despairing lows. The broadcaster is most well-known for being a video journalist on MuchMusic in the 1990s, and later a host on Entertainment Tonight Canada, which came to a series end in 2023. “Fall is a great time to come together, hear from some incredible voices and get talking,” said Luke McKee, manager of community engagement at Barrie Public Library. “We’re excited to welcome these authors and personalities to Barrie and give the community a chance to hear their stories, ask questions, and enjoy some great conversation.” The fall author talk series at the Barrie Public Library will also feature New York Times best-selling author Linwood Barclay. He is known for writing compelling suspense novels like “No Time for Goodbye.” The author is set to discuss his latest book, “Not a Word,” at the talk. Linwood Barclay’s author talk is scheduled for Thurs., Oct. 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Georgian Theatre in Barrie. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through TicketPro.
