Nearly a dozen vehicles that were parked along King Street East in Brockville had their tires slashed overnight. The Brockville Police Service says they received reports of approximately 10 vehicles and 18 tires being damaged along the downtown street. The incident occurred between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. “This is obviously devastating to people waking up and finding one or more of their tires being slashed overnight,” said Sgt. April Muldoon in an interview. “This one does appear completely random, and not targeted at all.” Resident Carol Casselman says she had just put new tires on her car on June 11 and wasn’t pleased to hear the news when she woke up. “My boyfriend said my back tires were flat,” Casselman said. “I came out and I looked at them and said ‘that’s weird for both back tires to be flat,’ so upon further inspection, I noticed there were slash marks on the tires.” It wasn’t long before Casselman realized she wasn’t alone when her neighbour discovered the same issue. “Apparently someone with just too much time on their hands,” she said. Casselman had to have her car towed Tuesday afternoon. One resident who did not wish to appear on camera said she had to miss work and find another way for her kids to get to school. “We take these types of crimes seriously, as they cause financial hardship for residents and unnecessary fear in the community. Patrol officers are actively canvassing the area, reviewing surveillance footage, and speaking with witnesses,” Brockville Police said in a news release. No suspects have been identified at this time.
