Toronto police have identified a second man whose body was found inside a burning vehicle earlier this week. He is 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre. Police say they were called to two similar car fires: one in Scarborough and the other in Etobicoke. The first one occurred just north of the Toronto Zoo, near Steeles Avenue East and Reesor Road. Investigators say they were called to the area just before 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. The second happened in the area of Royal York Road and Edenbridge Drive. Police say attended that scene just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 22. In both cases, emergency responders located a deceased victim inside a vehicle that was on fire. The one in Scarborough was in a field, while the other one in Etobicoke was in a parking lot, they said. The first victim, from the Scarborough incident, was previously identified as 32-year-old Marcus Charles. Det.-Sgt. Henri Marsman, of Toronto police’s Homicide and Missing Persons Unit, said Friday that he was identified through fingerprints. Charles, a Scarborough resident, was located inside a rental vehicle, he added. Marsman said investigators believe Charles was killed within a 24-hour period prior to the fire. The second victim, the detective-sergeant added, was found inside a vehicle that was stolen from somewhere in the Greater Toronto Area. Marsman previously said autopsies confirmed that both men sustained fatal gunshot wounds prior to the fires. Still unclear if fires linked No suspect information has been released in either case. Police say it is still too early to determine if these two fatal vehicle fires are connected. It is, however, believed that both victims were targeted but there is no ongoing threat to the public, they said. These are Toronto’s 27th and 28th homicides of 2026.
