Thunder Bay drug bust yields two handguns, cocaine: OPP

A 52-year-old Thunder Bay resident is facing multiple firearm and drug-related charges following an investigation by an Ontario Provincial Police-led taskforce.

The investigation began in March, involving members from the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and the Thunder Bay Police Service. OPP described the probe as an intelligence-led investigation into alleged drug trafficking in Thunder Bay and surrounding communities.

Search warrant executed

On March 11, OPP investigators, with assistance from the Thunder Bay Police Service emergency tactical unit, executed a search warrant on May Street in Thunder Bay.

Authorities seized two handguns, approximately 17 grams of suspected cocaine, two cellphones and a digital scale.

Charges laid

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old from Thunder Bay was charged with drug trafficking, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm.

The accused faces four other firearm-related offences.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and made a court appearance on March 20.
