Saskatoon police confirmed that major crime investigators are treating a suspicious death in a Westview apartment earlier this month as a homicide. Police were called to an apartment on the 1100 block of Avenue W North just after 8:30 p.m. on April 15 after learning someone inside was injured and unresponsive, according to a Saskatoon Police Service news release. Officers attempted life-saving measures on the victim, a 21-year-old man, but he was later declared dead at the scene by paramedics. Officers from the major crime and the forensic section were soon called in to investigate. Now, Major Crime Section investigators are ruling it a homicide. Police have not yet identified the victim. Police say further information will be shared as it becomes available. This marks the city’s fifth homicide this year. The announcement comes one day after police disclosed a sixth homicide investigation. That case stems from an apparent assault on Friday night. The 55-year-old victim was unresponsive when taken to hospital Friday evening, where he died on Saturday.
