An 18-year-old woman in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with several offences following an unprovoked attack in the city last week. A 911 call came in around 11:10 a.m. July 22 about a robbery in the area of John Street and St. George’s Avenue West. “An investigation revealed the accused forcibly took an item from a victim and knocked them to the ground,” police said in a news release July 27. Victim was seriously injured “The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to hospital. The victim and accused are not known to one another.” She was found at 3 p.m., but resisted being taken into custody. “While being arrested, the accused kicked, scratched and verbally threatened officers,” the release said. “Upon searching the accused, officers located a concealed knife.” Charges include aggravated assault, two counts of assaulting police while resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting police, robbery and uttering threats. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
