One dead and several injured in a collision in Saint-Alban

An elderly woman died on Saturday from her injuries following a serious collision that left several people injured in Saint-Alban, in the Capitale-Nationale region; another passenger is reported to be seriously injured.

The accident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the junction of Route 354 and Rang de l’Église, according to information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The driver of an SUV carrying three female passengers is believed to have continued along the Rang de l’Église while a vehicle was travelling on Route 354.

There is a stop sign on Rang de l’Église, but it was not yet clear whether the woman failed to stop or to give way to the van, said SQ spokesperson Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies.

The four occupants of the SUV, all elderly women, sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

One of the rear-seat passengers, a woman in her 80s, sadly died from her injuries whilst being transported to hospital. The passenger sitting next to her at the time of the accident, a woman in her seventies, remained in a critical condition.

The driver and the front-seat passenger in the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Sergeant Deshaies confirmed.

An SQ accident reconstruction specialist is at the scene to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident.

Route 354 near Rang de l’Église is currently closed to traffic in both directions.
