Christkindl Market kicks off in downtown Kitchener

A holiday tradition has once again taken over downtown Kitchener.

The Christkindl Market runs from Dec. 4 until Dec. 7 this year. The annual event features festive lights and photo areas, unique artisan gifts and season treats.

Live musicians will serenade shoppers as they wind up and down the street, flitting between the specially designed stalls. The Jason White Trio opens the market at 12 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the Golden Keys Trio at 4 p.m. and the KWS Brass Quintet at 7 p.m. There will also be performances from The Tom Nagy Christmas Experience, Grand Philharmonic Children’s and Youth Choir, Concordia Kinderchoir and Concordia Enzian Schuhplatter Verein. Anyone who wants to get into the spirit early can also check out the market’s curated playlist on Spotify.

There will also be several events happening throughout the course of the market, including an ice sculpture contest, blacksmithing demonstrations and roaming fire performers. Organizers even planned something special for their youngest guests, called the KidsKindl area. Opening ceremonies, featuring The Grand Philharmonic Adult Choir and KWS Brass Quintent are set for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Christkindl Market is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
