Cambridge residents to pay $21.98 more for city's portion of 2025 property taxes

Homeowners in Cambridge will be paying $21.98 more for the city’s portion of the property taxes in 2025.

The city has officially adopted its first ever Strong Mayor Budget featuring a total property tax increase of 1.28 per cent.

That adds up to $1.83 per month.

Under the Strong Mayor Powers, the head of council is required to propose the annual budget by Feb. 1 each year. Council can then amend the proposed budget by passing a resolution within 30 days. The head of council then has 10 days to vet any amendments.

“The adoption of Cambridge’s first Strong Mayor Budget marks a significant step forward in how we deliver services and plan for our city’s future,” Mayor Jan Liggett said in a news release. “This budget reflects the priorities of our residents, balances growth with fiscal responsibility, and invests in infrastructure and services that matter most to our community. Staff have talked to residents throughout the year to hear what is important to them. I am proud of the collaborative efforts of Council and staff in achieving a budget that ensures Cambridge remains a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive city.”
