Woodshop at Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization reopens after renos

The newly renovated woodshop at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization will provide hands-on learning, as well as opportunities for creativity and active aging.

The Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) has officially reopened its woodshop.

The newly renovated space will provide seniors with hands-on learning, as well as opportunities for creativity and active aging.

The woodshop is located at the LSCO.

“It means so much to seniors and hobbyists who want to build things, tinker, to learn new skills,” said Kaitlynn Weaver, LSCO executive director.

“And it’s a great way for seniors and older adults to teach younger folks 35-plus how to use a woodshop, how to use a table saw.

“It’s really meaningful and has a significant impact.”

Westco Construction Ltd. has secured naming rights to the woodshop for the next three years.

“I think it’s always nice for an organization to support the community through writing a cheque, but I think it’s more meaningful to the community and our staff to actually be able to be in the organization and help that way,” said Taunya Pickles with Westco.

The updated equipment was donated by the estate of John Unrau.
