Walls smashed, human waste found after destructive grad party in Wasaga Beach

CTV Barrie: Resort trashed in Wasaga Beach Walls were smashed and furniture destroyed after a grad party got out of hand in Wasaga Beach. Mike Walker reports.

Resort owners in Wasaga Beach are dealing with thousands of dollars in damage after a graduation party got out of control early this morning.

About 50 students from a catholic high school in Woodbridge were staying in three cottages at the Wasaga River Resort.  At around 2 a.m., a security guard went to investigate a possible fight and discovered the cottages had been trashed.

Smashed beer bottles littered the floor; holes were punched in the walls. The owners even found human waste on the carpet.

"They absolutely trashed the living room. Flipped over furniture," says manager Elizabeth Rossi. "They actually took a picture off the wall, punched a hole and then put the picture back up."

The owner estimates there's about $6,000 in damage altogether. The units were rented to six 18-year-olds.

"They decided to get all fueled up and have a trash and bash and I’m the victim of that," says Nick Ciccaglione. "When the officer was calling OPP for assistance with an eviction and that's when they went crazy trashed all the villas and scooted out of here less than five minutes."

The owners collected a security deposit from the students, but it's not enough to cover the damage. They've handed over the renters' information to police and are even considering legal action.

"We will be moving forward in civil proceedings. We're also going to get the OPP involved and look at some criminal charges as well," says Rossi.

Police say charges are possible. OPP Const. Mark Kinney says any damage to private property could lead to a mischief charge, which means a fine or jail time.
