Police in Greater Sudbury have issued an arrest warrant for a 33-year-old man in connection with a fatal tent fire last week that has been ruled a homicide. Brandon Gramling-McEwan is wanted for first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of arson with disregard for human life, two counts of arson causing property damage and possession of incendiary materials. The charges stem from a fire that broke out in two tents at Energy Court in the early morning hours of June 11. Initial response The Greater Sudbury Police Services said officers, fire and paramedic services were dispatched to the scene around 3:40 a.m. after reports of the tents ablaze. After the fires were extinguished, emergency responders found a deceased individual inside one of the tents. No other injuries were reported. Police previously announced that a post-mortem examination conducted by the coroner’s office, along with additional testing, identified the victim as a 41-year-old local man. “His name will not be released out of respect for his next of kin,” police said in a previous news release. Police said that several individuals were seen fleeing the two tents involved immediately after the fire began at about 3:20 a.m. Investigation findings Police said detectives in the Major Crime Section are working with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause of the fire. “As a result of the ongoing investigation into the homicide at Energy Court on June 11, 2026, detectives have identified the individual believed to be responsible,” police said in news release Tuesday, announcing the warrant for Brandon Gramling-McEwan. Police said investigators continue to canvass the area and review video surveillance footage to gather additional information. Appeal for public assistance “We are requesting the public’s assistance to locate 33-year-old Brandon Gramling-McEwan, who is wanted on an arrest warrant,” said police.
