Penetanguishene has lowered flags at Town Hall in honour of former Coun. Carol Baker, who served the community on town council in 1997 to 2000. “Carol Baker cared deeply about our community and gave her time and energy in service to the residents of Penetanguishene,” said Mayor Doug Rawson. “On behalf of council and the entire town, I extend our sincere condolences to Carol’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her,” said Rawson. Coun. Douglas Leroux has been on Penetanguishene’s council for 31 years. In fact, he was on council when Baker was between 1997 and 2000 . “I’ve known her all my life,” Leroux said. “She was born and raised here.” He said both she, and Counc. Debbie Levi worked together to ensure the Kitchikewana statue was placed at the water’s edge. “She was instrumental in having the statue placed at the waterfront,” he said. The Town of Penetanguishene joins the community in mourning Carol’s passing and extends its heartfelt condolences to her family.
