Oro-Medonte councillor unseats long-time mayor Harry Hughes

New face of Oro-Medonte After 16 years, Oro-Medonte has a new mayor.

After 16 years, Oro-Medonte will have a new mayor after Randy Greenlaw unseated incumbent Harry Hughes with a significant lead.

The township threw 4,793 votes Greenlaw's way, compared to Hughes' 2,380.

"I was glad to see the public come out, and their voice was very loud and clear, and they wanted change that reflected what their needs are, not just for today but moving forward," Greenlaw said.

"This town means a great deal to me, and I've dedicated my services not only as mayor but definitely in a lot of different ways. And what happens in this community is really important to me," said incumbent Hughes.

As many other municipalities started posting results shortly after the polls closed at 8 p.m., Oro-Medonte revealed the final results around 12:30 a.m.

Greenlaw has served as Ward 5 councillor for the township since being elected in 2018.

It's expected Greenlaw will be sworn in as mayor in early December.
