Warning: This story may be upsetting to some readers A cat is getting a second chance after enduring an act of cruelty. The Cambridge and District Humane Society said an animal services officer was called to a local trail on Thursday morning after a cat was found tied up and abandoned in a reusable bag. “It’s hard to imagine the fear and pain he must have endured. And yet, against all odds, he was still alive,” a social media post from the Humane Society said. The cat, who they are calling McNally, was taken to the Kitchener South Animal Hospital for immediate medial treatment. He had multiple puncture wounds, severe abdominal trauma, fluid buildup, anemia and very high Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) levels (which can indicate high stress on the animal’s liver or internal bleeding). The Humane Society said he may still need surgery on his abdominal wall. “Right now, he is resting, receiving methadone for pain and IV fluids, under the constant care of the medical team at Kitchener South Animal Hospital, who are doing everything they can to give him a chance. PAWS has been contacted,” the Humane Society wrote. PAWS, the Provincial Animal Welfare Service, investigates suspected cases of animal abuse and neglect. Funds are being raised to help with the cost of McNally’s medical treatment.
