Provincial police are investigating a crash in Muskoka Lakes Township Saturday evening that took the life of a local motorcyclist. According to the OPP, Bracebridge detachment officers were called to 8:30 p.m. reports of a head-on collision between a motorcycle and passenger vehicle on Muskoka Road 169 near East Black Lake Road. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders and bystanders, police confirm the 52-year-old motorcyclist from Lake of Bays was pronounced dead on scene. Police say the driver of the other vehicle, a 22-year-old from Springwater Township, did not sustain any injuries, but he was charged with dangerous operation causing death. He was scheduled for a Sunday bail hearing. Muskoka Road 169 was closed in the area for several hours as OPP technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist worked on the scene. The area has since reopened. “The OPP would like to thank members of the public who provided assistance at the scene,” said Central Region Sgt. Joe Brisebois in a news release. “Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122.” Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
