Innisfil rec complex remains closed as cleanup efforts continue

Firefighters were called to battle heavy smoke and flames at the Innisfil YMCA.

The Innisfil Recreational Complex will remain closed for at least another week as cleanup efforts continue.

According to the town, a reopening date has not yet been confirmed. A temporary patch has been installed on the roof to prevent further water damage.

During this extended closure, all rentals, registered programs and drop-in activities will be suspended.

On May 12, thick, black smoke and flames flooded the Innisfil Recreational Complex on Yonge Street. The building was evacuated as crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported in the midst of this fire.

While the exact cause is still undetermined, the west side of the building, which includes the pool operating equipment, sustained significant damage.

The soccer fields and baseball diamonds at the centre are still available for bookings.

The town says they would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
