New way for Winnipeg Transit users to track their routes

Winnipeg Transit users will no longer need to wonder where their bus is and can track their bus in almost real time.

Winnipeg Transit riders armed with a smartphone or internet access no longer need to wonder where their buses are.

According to the City of Winnipeg, passengers are now able to track buses in near-real time using the Winnipeg Transit app and website, as well as Navigo.

Bus locations update based on GPS, the city said, and will appear as part of search results on the map.

Clicking on a bus on the map will provide more information, including how recently the bus’s location was updated. If there hasn’t been a recent GPS report from the bus, the location won’t be visible in the app, the city said.

The update comes after Winnipeg Transit’s GPS system experienced widespread issues last summer and fall. However, the city said it is now performing with the same accuracy as it did before.

Users can disable the feature in the app settings if they don’t need to see live bus locations or are trying to limit data use.
