Flood preparations are underway as officials forecast rising water levels. On social media Friday night, the City of Brandon posted a photo of the intersection of Grand Valley Road and 18th Street, buried under soil. The temporary dike was put up after the city said it was told by provincial flood forecasters the Assiniboine River is expected to begin rising early next week. The post said forecasters expect it’ll peak near July 12. “Minor site cleanup activities may occur on Monday as crews continue to monitor conditions and prepare for the anticipated rise in river levels,” the post said. The city said no other dike construction work is scheduled this weekend.
