More Canadians plan to celebrate Halloween this year

A Retailmenot.ca syrvey said 66% of Canadians think they will spend more money this year on Halloween.

More Canadians are making plans for Halloween this year, according to a survey by Retailmenot.ca.

Halloween has not fallen on a Saturday in six years.

Retailmenot.ca said 66% of Canadians think they will spend more money as a result.

The London Drugs in St. Vital Centre said that sales have been steady this year.

“Sales compared to last year have been good. They’ve been very strong. You can see the consumer, the Canadian consumer, isn’t wanting to go south of the border like they were last year,” said assistant store manager Josh Halliday.

The Retailmenot.ca survey said that 64% of Canadians plan to hand out candy, as opposed to 50% last year.

River Heights resident Jim Siddall expects around 50-70 kids at his Tunnel of Terror.

It’s become a fan favourite over the years.

“Last week my boy Alex was at school at Churchill and his buddies were saying, your dad is going to do this again this year right? So it’s pretty good. I enjoy it,” said Siddall.

Siddall builds his collection a bit each year. He said the cost is worth it.

Retailmenot.ca also surveyed the expected costs of party hosts and goers.

The site said that Canadian party hosts plan to spend an average of $169 on Halloween shindigs.
