Residents of more than 350 properties in West Kelowna who were forced to flee amid tactical evacuations Tuesday have been given the go-ahead to return home, according to officials. The Kalamoir Park Wildfire was discovered Tuesday and quickly grew to over eight hectares before it was ultimately declared “held” around 4:30 p.m. It is suspected to be human caused. Around 6:30 pm. An evacuation order for 357 properties was lifted, according to the regional district. An evacuation alert, however, remains in place for more than 740 addresses. “Residents on evacuation alert are advised to be ready to leave their home at a moment’s notice,” an update from the regional district said. “They should be prepared to be away from their home for an extended period of time, make arrangements for pets and pack essential items such as medicines and important documents.” People in the area can expect to see smoke, and crews will remain to monitor hot spots. The public is advised to keep a safe distance from firefighters and equipment.
