With Folklorama set to begin in just a few days, one pavilion is looking for help following the theft of its cultural clothing. In a social media post from Thursday, the Ghana Pavilion said three bins containing outfits for the Ghana Union of Manitoba Dancers were stolen from the trunk of a car. The post goes on to say they were made for over 30 dancers who have been practicing for months to perform at Folklorama. Now, the Ghana Pavilion is asking the community for help to either recover the clothing or create new ones. The pavilion added that it urgently needs West African print fabrics, volunteer tailors or seamstresses, and 20 Ghana jerseys in children’s sizes medium and large or adult size small. The pavilion is also accepting monetary donations. “These young performers have worked tirelessly to represent Ghana and share our beautiful culture with thousands of visitors at Folklorama,” the post said. “With your help, we can make sure they still have the opportunity to perform.” Anyone with information about the stolen bins is asked to contact the pavilion. In a statement to CTV News, the Winnipeg Police Service confirmed it has received a report about the incident. Once it has been triaged, the property crime unit will investigate.
