An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was charged with assault after tasering a driver last winter. The OPP’s Professional Standards Unit has charged Const. Kevin Noh, 35, of Richmond Hill with assault and assault with a weapon. Police say an officer in an unmarked cruiser pulled over a car on Yonge Street in North York on January 2. In a press release, police say “During the traffic stop, the officer discharged a conducted energy weapon at the driver of the vehicle.” The assaulted driver was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act and was later taken to a hospital for an assessment. On Friday, Noh, a nine-year veteran and a member of the OPP Highway Safety division, was formally charged. He has been assigned to administrative duties and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Friday, October 2.
