A Halifax woman has won a top prize from a scratch and win lottery game, making her the second Atlantic Canadian to take home $2 million in just under two months. Jodine Baker won off a “Scratch’N Win” ticket bought in Bedford, N.S. “When scratching the ticket, Baker noticed one of her winning numbers matched a number on the ticket with a corresponding prize of $100,000,” reads a statement from the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. She says she was in disbelief and had to call her partner to confirm what was on the ticket. “I yelled to Mark, ‘I think I won $100,000, but I don’t understand. It says ‘20X,’” she says in the statement. Baker joins Perry and Yvonne Noseworthy of Paradise, N.L., who took home their $2 million prize in May. According to Atlantic Lotto, Baker is originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, and she says she considers herself the second Newfoundlander to win the big prize. She says the first thing on her mind when cashing in the ticket was taking a trip home to Newfoundland. “I’m going home for the weekend and I’m going to celebrate with them and it’s going to be a good time. Newfoundlanders know how to party,” says Baker. She’s a financial administrator and plans to continue working, but notes retirement may become a reality sooner than she thought. Baker also told the lottery corporation the money will be used to pay off her mortgage, help her kids, and plan a trip. “It’s very life-changing, coming from nothing to having options,” she says.
