It’s a popular time for boating on Quebec waterways, and police are hoping to keep people safe. Montreal and Quebec provincial police will be stepping up patrols on the water this weekend as part of a coordinated safety operation. The goal is to stop any behaviour by recreational boaters that endangers their own safety and that of others. “In the majority of collisions, capsizings, and drownings, human behaviour is a major factor. Knowing your boat and familiarizing yourself with its equipment during boating activities can prevent unfortunate situations caused by inexperience,” the Surete du Quebec said in a news release. Throughout the weekend, officers will be enforcing regulations for boaters, both at the dock and on the water. Those breaking regulations, whether in a motorboat or paddling, can face fines.
