Here’s how many pet waste complaints have been filed in Winnipeg

The City of Winnipeg is providing the scoop about pet waste complaints it has dealt with since 2020.

The City of Winnipeg is dropping the data on how many complaints have raised a stink about pet waste.

According to the city, Animal Services received 725 calls about pets defecating on property that isn’t their owners since 2020.

Breaking down the fecal figures further, 471 of those calls were for an owner who failed to pick up after their pet on someone else’s property, while 217 were on public property.

Ninety-one were reported for both public and private property.

The city’s responsible pet ownership bylaw requires folks to pick up after their furry friends. Failing to do so could earn you a rough fine of $200, or $100 if it’s paid early.

It’s not just pooch parents in the doghouse, either.

While most complaints are about dogs, city officials say some cats were also reported for eschewing the litter box for others’ lawns and properties.

There is a sweet note to the stinky, raw data, though.

The city said the number of calls has only decreased each year, with 107 calls in 2024 – a significant drop from 170 in 2020.
