A corrections officer who was previously accused of sexually assaulting two inmates has been re-arrested and is facing a new sexual assault charge. Winnipeg police did not release the identity of the 37-year-old man, but confirmed he is a correctional officer at a facility in Manitoba. Police said in January 2024, an inmate was receiving overnight medical care and was being guarded by two officers. “When one officer temporarily left the room, the man was sexually assaulted by the other officer who remained in the room,” police said, noting the inmate was not physically injured. The sex crimes unit took over the investigation when the assault was reported later. Police said the officer turned himself in last week and was charged with one count of sexual assault. He has been released on an undertaking. Winnipeg police previously announced charges against this officer in July. In one incident, which happened in December 2024, police allege an inmate was sexually assaulted with a weapon by a correctional officer while receiving overnight medical care at a hospital. The second incident, which police said happened in January 2025, involved an inmate in hospital who was allegedly sexually assault by a correctional officer, police said. In both incidents, police said the inmates were sexually assaulted when one of the two officers with them left the room. The charges and allegations have not been proven in court.
