Mounties say a pair of fires sparked in Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley this week are under investigation. The first was a structure fire on Festubert Street in Duncan, B.C., on Wednesday, in which several vehicles and two residential buildings were damaged, police said. Some residents were forced from their homes, and emergency social services have been engaged to assist while they’re displaced. The second was a vehicle fire on Dingwall Street in North Cowichan early Thursday morning. North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said the blaze was quickly contained, but a second vehicle nearby was damaged as well. RCMP and fire investigators attended both scenes and found each blaze to be suspicious in nature. Mounties didn’t specify whether they believe the two incidents are related. Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information related to either fire has been asked to call the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-746-2104 and quote file number 2026-12351.
