Quebec provincial police (SQ) are currently looking for a “person of interest” in connection with a homicide investigation after a body was found on Sunday morning. The SQ said on Sunday that Philippe Benoit, 41, is wanted after a body was found in a residence in Shawinigan, north of Trois-Rivières. The body was discovered on 201st Avenue at around 9 a.m. “From the first moment, it was clear that it was a homicide,” said SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel. “The investigation started then.” Police did not give further information about the victim’s sex or age. The investigation led to the search for Benoit at Lac-aux-Sables, about 50 kilometres northwest of Shawinigan. The search is ongoing. Benoit is 5′5″ and weighs around 100 pounds with brown hair and grey eyes. “He may have important information relating to this incident,” the SQ said. “Anyone who spots Philippe Benoit is asked not to approach him, but to call 911.” Investigators remain at the homicide location with forensic technicians analyzing the scene.
