After soaring temperatures in southern Manitoba and a major, multi-day storm across the north last week, the week ahead looks less eventful around the province.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said 20-40 cm of snowfall was reported in northern areas last week, while Thompson possibly received more than 10 mm of freezing rain over a stretch of just a few hours.

Light snow will dot the north on Monday, mainly around Thompson, Brochet and Tadoule Lake. Light snow or flurries are also possible around Lynn Lake and Churchill.

Meanwhile, central areas from The Pas through Norway to Island Lake will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud with single-digit daytime highs.

Southern regions won’t be much warmer on Monday, with unseasonably cool single-digit highs in strong and gusty north winds.

Sprague and the southeast corner will get soaked with 5-10 mm of rain, courtesy of a trough of low pressure.

Rain will also spread across northwestern Ontario, with up to 10-15 mm possible.

Ahead on Monday night, strong north winds will continue as the sky clears across the south, allowing temperatures to slip below the freezing mark.

Fog could develop overnight in the southwest, which could reduce visibility into the Tuesday morning commute.

The rest of the week should bring sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud to Winnipeg, as temperatures gradually increase each day.
