A Windsor Police Service officer is sharing his story, reflecting on a time he saved the life of a 21-year-old eight years ago. Const. David Drummond was featured on police’s social media, sharing how training for the Emergency Services Unit prepared him for that moment. “It’s just a huge fight,” said Drummond, referring back to the scene. “I see this kid walking towards me and he says, ‘Oh I got stabbed.’ I could tell it’s severe just from the bubbling and the bleeding. I put my fingers in the hole and just pinched off what I could.” He said he knew that the victim needed so much more than he was able to provide. “It just happened that he came to someone that maybe had a little bit more knowledge. I’m no doctor or medic or anything like that,” Drummond said. “We have a little bit of extra medical training. Paramedics would put on this big thing, they had all these scenarios where there’s chaos going on and we would go and treat the wounds.” That training program is where the constable was able to pull experience from and help the victim. After the victim was treated in hospital, reports said he had been saved. “It impacted me in a positive way because you do see the good that you’re doing and the impact that you can make,” Drummond concluded.
