The Brantford Police Service has ended its investigation into a fight that was filmed and then shared on social media. The video allegedly showed the assault of a youth. On Wednesday, police announced the arrest of a 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old girl. Both were charged with assault. Police said they also identified an 11-year-old boy who was involved in the incident, but they could not charge him because of his age. “The Brantford Police Service reminds the public that incidents involving violence or suspected criminal activity should be reported directly to police,” they wrote in a media release. “Prompt reporting enables investigators to preserve evidence, identify those involved and ensure appropriate support is provided to victims. Police also urge the public not to share images or videos of criminal incidents on social media, particularly when they involve children or youth. Sharing this content can cause additional harm to victims, negatively impact those involved, and may interfere with ongoing police investigations.” Police said no further details about the case would be shared due to the age of the accused.
