Hydro-Québec has had to pause its free heat pump installation program for modest-income households due to the “exceptional interest” it generated. The Crown corporation states on its website that, just one month after beginning the program, registration for the 2026–2027 season is closed in order to process all the applications already submitted. “Following the high level of interest in Hydro-Québec’s offer of free heat pumps, the maximum capacity for home visits has been reached. All households that submitted a registration form will be contacted to confirm their eligibility and schedule a visit as part of the Éconologis program,” the Quebec government utility stated. The offer, announced in late June, is helping to fund energy-efficient upgrades for nearly 20,000 Quebec households. To be eligible, a single-person household must have an annual income of less than $59,076, or a dual-income household income of $83,541 for a couple, according to the Éconologis website.
