Windsor’s waterfront will be filled with music, family activities and Canadian pride this weekend as the city prepares to host the Great Canadian Riverfront celebration at Dieppe Gardens. The free event is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 6, from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. along the Detroit River. The evening will feature live performances from Buck Twenty at 4 p.m., Ultrasonik at 6 p.m. and The S’Aints at 8 p.m. Organizers say the celebration will also include food trucks, beverages, lawn games and activities for all ages. Children will be able to create Canadian-inspired shirts at the Great Canadian Tee Studio, while supplies last, and attendees are encouraged to wear red and white for a chance to win a prize for the most patriotic look. The evening will culminate with O Canada and a drone show presented by LiUNA Local 625 at 9:15 p.m. The display will feature 400 synchronized drones over the Detroit River, creating a choreographed light show celebrating Windsor and Canada. “The Great Canadian Riverfront is a fitting finale to the Riverfront Summer Series, one of the key streams of Experience Windsor,” Mayor Drew Dilkens said in a news release. “Canadian pride is especially strong right now, and here in Windsor, where Canada begins, there’s no better place to celebrate than together along our riverfront.” Dilkens thanked LiUNA Local 625 for its support of the Riverfront Summer Series, saying the partnership has helped create events along the waterfront throughout the summer. The Great Canadian Riverfront is part of the Experience Windsor Riverfront Summer Series, which is among several streams of programming offering free events and activities throughout Windsor during the summer and fall. Admission to Sunday’s event is free. Free parking will also be available at all downtown street metres that day. Organizers are encouraging attendees to arrive early and find a spot along the waterfront ahead of the drone show.
