Driver charged after car clocked at nearly 200 km/h on the 401 in Chatham-Kent

A driver from Michigan has been charged after Ontario Provincial Police clocked a vehicle travelling nearly 200 km/h on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

In a posting on X, West Region OPP say on Tuesday at approximately 1:27 p.m., a driver was stopped in the eastbound lanes for speeding, with officers clocking the vehicle at 198 km/h.

A 20-year-old has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with stunt driving, failing to stop on the right for an emergency vehicle, and failing to surrender their permit.

The person’s driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.
