Alberta group offering $35K reward for info on wild horse killer

A $35,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the person who killed a wild horse.

An Alberta free-roaming horse advocacy group is offering a $35,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest of a person who killed a wild horse.

A wild stallion named Grey Hawk was found dead on the side of a road by campers west of Caroline, Alta.

The Help Alberta Wildies Society says someone shot the horse in the head.

It’s believed the stallion was killed last Tuesday, June 30, between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The reward money was raised through donations by the society’s followers.

Society member Anite Resnechenko says the animals “aren’t just wild horses” to them.

“A lot of these people follow these horses through their stages, finding out what they have to do to sustain, how it is to survive out in the wild because they have many predators after them,” she told CTV News Edmonton.

“Now they have to not only look out for predators, now they’re looking out for somebody with a gun.”

The society hopes the reward will help generate tips.
