Police in New Westminster are thanking witnesses to a recent break-in for providing a detailed description of the suspect, which helped them arrest her on multiple outstanding warrants. The break-in occurred around 5 p.m. on Thursday at an apartment in the 700 block of Hamilton Street, the New Westminster Police Department said in a news release Friday. The caller reported that “an unknown woman” had been found inside the home. When she was confronted, she assaulted a witness and fled, police said. “Thanks to the detailed description provided by witnesses, officers located the suspect approximately 40 minutes later in the area of 6th Street and 3rd Avenue and she was arrested without incident,” the NWPD release reads. Arresting officers found the suspect in possession of “identification cards belonging to other people,” police said, adding that the woman was wanted on three outstanding warrants. The NWPD did not name the woman, saying the incident is still under investigation and charges have not yet been laid. The suspect remains in custody, police said, describing her as being “held for court.” “Our officers are working to determine if this suspect is connected to numerous other recent break-and-enter investigations,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver, in the release. “We rely on the eyes and ears of the community, and the quick calls from witnesses in this case were instrumental in helping us make an arrest.”
