Two charged after RCMP seize unstamped tobacco in Squamish

Two people in Squamish have been charged following an investigation into the sale of illegal tobacco products.

Squamish RCMP announced the charges in a statement Tuesday, six months after investigators searched a repurposed metal shipping container where the contraband was allegedly being sold.

“In August 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at the location and numerous unstamped tobacco products and stamped vape product were seized,” reads the RCMP statement.

Mounties did not specify exactly how many products were seized, only that the bust happened at a busy intersection in the 40000-block of Government Road.

Further investigation resulted in charges being laid against Melanie Bob and Doran Lewis on Feb. 4.

Bob and Lewis are each charged with possessing and selling unstamped tobacco under both the federal Excise Act and B.C.’s Tobacco Tax Act. Police allege the pair were selling tobacco that did not carry the required federal or provincial tax stamps, which are mandatory for legal sale in Canada.

“These types of investigations are important to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations designed to protect public health and reduce contraband activity,” said Sgt. Jeff Shore.

The two accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
