Montreal authorities were called to the Lachine Canal near René-Lévesque Park in Montreal early Sunday morning following reports of two possible drownings. One person fell into the canal, and a second person entered the water to help, according to the Montreal fire department. Firefighters recovered both individuals from the water. They were called to the scene shortly after midnight, and the rescue operation ended after 2 a.m. Both individuals were in their early 20s. One was identified as a man, while the gender of the other person has not been disclosed. They were transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition, according to Urgences-santé. As of Sunday, the fire department and emergency services could not confirm whether either individual had died. CTV News contacted the Quebec coroner’s office for an update on their condition but had not received a response.
