If you’re in Wasaga Beach for the weekend, you may want to reconsider which beach you’re headed to. The Town has issued a swim advisory for Beach Areas 1 and 2 since recent water quality tests show elevated bacteria in parts of the water. While those two beaches are affected, Beach Areas 3 through 6 do not have any swim advisories in place. The Town is encouraging visitors and tourists to explore those areas instead. “Due to the heat and recent rain, elevated levels of bacteria in the water may pose a risk to your health,” the Town says in a social media post. Officials are advising beach goers who choose to swim to avoid putting their head underwater or swallowing lake water. They are also advising people to wash their hands after being in the sand or water, especially before eating. Swim advisories are precautionary and can happen when a combination of weather conditions occur like heat, waves or rainfall. Also, heavy use of the water can affect water quality. Advisories get lifted when bacteria levels return to normal.
