Speed suspected in fiery Lamborghini crash that snarled Surrey, B.C., traffic

A fiery crash involving a Lamborghini in Surrey Friday afternoon sent three people to hospital.

Authorities are investigating a fiery crash involving a Lamborghini Urus and another vehicle that snarled traffic in Surrey, B.C., during the Friday afternoon rush hour.

The Surrey Police Service said the two vehicles collided at 96 Avenue and 161A Street around 4 p.m., forcing emergency responders to close the busy intersection for hours. “At this early stage, it is believed that the speed of at least one of the vehicles may have been a contributing factor,” the SPS said, in a news release.

The Lamborghini was upside-down and on fire when crews arrived, but authorities said the occupants of both vehicles had escaped and no one appeared to be injured.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said it transported three people to hospital in stable condition after the crash.

Firefighters managed to douse the flames quickly after reaching the scene.

Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and asked anyone with information, dash-cam video or CCTV recordings relevant to the incident to come forward.

Authorities also asked drivers headed for 96 Avenue and 161A Street on Friday evening to find an alternative route, as the intersection is expected to remain closed as officers gather evidence and crews clean up debris.
