Report of armed man in mental health crisis in Kamloops, RCMP say

Authorities responded to a report of a man with a gun suffering from a possible mental health crisis in Kamloops, B.C., early Tuesday morning.

Kamloops RCMP said officers surrounded a home in the city’s Northshore neighbourhood around 5:45 a.m., with help from police dogs and Emergency Response Team members.

In a statement, Cpl. Dana Napier said one man was arrested but that a large police presence remains in the area as officers “investigate the firearm allegations.”

“We are asking the public to please avoid the area at this time to allow investigators space to work,” Napier said.

Authorities did not say how long it might take for the situation to be resolved.

Paramedics are also on hand in case they’re needed, the RCMP said.
