Glass bottle thrown at mom and baby in Victoria, police say

A woman was arrested after allegedly throwing a glass bottle at a mother and baby in Victoria last week, and police are urging the victim to come forward.

Officers were called to Centennial Square around 5:45 p.m. on July 27 for reports of an assault, the Victoria Police Department said in a statement Sunday.

“Witnesses reported that a female threw a glass bottle towards a woman and her baby, but fortunately, it did not make contact. Bystanders intervened to prevent a physical altercation after the suspect then allegedly charged at the mother, and police quickly arrested the suspect,” police said.

“The assault is believed to be random.”

The mother and child left before police arrived, prompting the appeal to the public.

Investigators are hoping the woman will come forward and make a statement so charges can ultimately be recommended to Crown counsel.
