Man charged after fleeing from RIDE officers through a field in Newcastle

Police chopper video shows a man fleeing from RIDE police in Newcastle and running through a field before he was arrested.

A 26-year-old man from St. Catharines is facing charges after he tried to bypass a RIDE check by fleeing from police on foot through a Newcastle field on Saturday night.

At around 10 p.m., officers of the RIDE Unit saw a vehicle that seemed to avoid the lineup, Durham police said in a news release published Wednesday.

Sometime later, the vehicle was located abandoned in a Clarington Fire Station parking lot. Officers, assisted by AIR1, searched the area and found the driver of the vehicle feeling on foot through a field.

He was taken into custody without incident, police said. AIR1 also located the suspect’s keys and a quantity of cocaine when he was fleeing through the field.

Enrique Scott Williamson was charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a Schedule I substance, having cannabis readily available, driving while under suspension and breaching probation.

The charges have not been tested in court.
