Human trafficking probe leads to multiple charges against Brampton man in London

A Brampton man is facing multiple charges following a London police human trafficking investigation.

Police say officers were at a hotel in the Exeter Road area on April 17 conducting routine outreach and safety checks when they identified an online advertisement with indicators of possible third-party involvement. Officers arranged to meet with the female advertiser.

As a result of the interaction, police identified a man they believed was facilitating sexual services. Officers later saw the man leaving the hotel.

According to police, when officers approached him, the man ran back inside the hotel. During the pursuit, officers say they saw the suspect discard an item in a hallway.

The man was arrested, and police located and seized a loaded Glock 22 handgun from the area where the item was discarded. Investigators say the accused did not have a valid licence or registration for the firearm.

Police say officers confirmed the man was involved in facilitating the female’s activities within the sex trade. Two cellular phones and a quantity of Canadian currency were also seized.

A 24-year-old man from Brampton has been charged with:

• unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon;
• possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm while not holding a licence;
• possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon or prohibited device;
• possession of a loaded regulated firearm;
• three counts of careless handling of a firearm, prohibited weapon, prohibited device or ammunition;
• carrying a concealed weapon;
• procuring or exercising control;
• material benefit from sexual services; and
• advertising another person’s sexual services.
