Flurries in Toronto, snow squall warning in parts of southern Ontario

Toronto saw flurries and cloudy skies to start the work week and could see as much as two centimetres of snow before day’s end.

Environment Canada says there’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries in the city this afternoon, with winds gusting up to 50 km/h.

Today’s high will just barely reach above freezing at 2 C. It felt like – 9 with the windchill earlier this morning.

No weather advisories have been issued for the city or surrounding area, but elsewhere in southern Ontario snow squall warnings are in effect.

The warning, which covers London, Stratford, Woodstock, and St. Thomas, is calling for 10 to 15 centimetres of snowfall in some areas.

“Lake effect snow off Lake Huron will continue today. The heaviest snow band is expected to shift east of London this afternoon,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

The national weather agency said visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times due to the squalls.

Toronto’s long-range forecast

Tuesday’s forecast in Toronto will start with clouds and winds of up to 15 km/h. The high will reach 3 C amid clearing skies, but feel like – 4 with the windchill in the morning.

Wednesday will see sunny conditions and a high of 5 C.

Clouds return Thursday and Friday to close out the week amid a chance of showers both days.
