Leamington man charged after hit-and-run crash injures cyclist

A Leamington man is facing multiple charges after a cyclist was struck in an early morning collision and the driver fled the scene, according to OPP.

Officers were around 2:19 Sunday morning to a crash involving a vehicle and a cyclist on Erie Street South near Coronation Avenue in Leamington.

Police say the driver left the scene but was located a short time later.

A 36 year old of Leamington has been arrested and charged with several offences, including operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, operation causing bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily harm.

The accused was issued a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days, as required under provincial law.

The 36-year-old cyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
