Motorcyclist receives $3,268 fine, 32 demerit points for speeding on Hwy. 40 in Montreal

A 36-year-old Montreal motorcyclist has had his driver’s licence suspended for seven days after he was caught speeding on the eastbound Highway 40.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says the man was spotted travelling at high speeds near Highway 13 at 1 a.m. on Saturday.

“When officers attempted to intercept the motorcycle, the driver accelerated and continued on his way, committing additional violations of the Highway Safety Code,” the SQ notes. “Upon taking the exit for Côte-Vertu Boulevard, the motorcycle driver was travelling at excessive speed on the service road of Highway 40 East.”

As such, the driver received four traffic tickets totaling $3,268 and 32 demerit points for:

• Excessive speeding (160 km/h in a 50 km/h zone);
• Driving between midnight and 5 a.m. while holding a Class 5 or 6A learner’s permit;
• Zigzagging;
• Obstructing the enforcement of the Highway Safety Code.

The Sûreté du Québec notes that speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on the province’s roads.
